It is now Canadian Solar’s turn to join the ranks of top global players in the solar PV industry by establishing a stronger manufacturing supply chain in the United States. Following the footsteps of other industry leaders, Canadian Solar is making significant strides in expanding its presence and operations in the American market. This move highlights the company’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for solar energy in the United States while contributing to the development of a sustainable and renewable energy future.
Canadian Solar has recently revealed its plans to establish a module assembly plant with a capacity of 5 GW in Mesquite, Texas. This facility will play a crucial role in the company’s operations, serving as a key source of high-quality solar modules. Additionally, Canadian Solar has also announced the construction of a state-of-the-art solar PV cell production facility in Jeffersonville, Indiana, with a capacity of 5 GW. This facility will supply the necessary solar cells for the Mesquite plant, enabling the production of approximately 20,000 high-power modules on a daily basis. These strategic initiatives showcase Canadian Solar’s commitment to expanding its manufacturing capabilities and meeting the increasing demand for solar energy in the United States.
The Inflation Reduction Act gets a shoutout for making this investment possible:
Thomas Koerner, Senior Vice President of Canadian Solar, expressed the significance of establishing the new factory, stating, “This achievement marks a crucial milestone for us, allowing us to enhance our support to customers in the United States with cutting-edge technology that leads the industry.” He further emphasized that this investment is the second of many planned long-term commitments in the United States. Canadian Solar is strategically considering the development of a local, sustainable, and environmentally friendly energy supply chain, aligning with the long-term demands of the recently implemented Investment Tax Credit (ITC) rules. By adhering to these regulations, Canadian Solar aims to contribute to the growth of a self-sufficient and clean energy ecosystem while meeting the evolving needs of the U.S. market.
