JinkoSolar, a prominent player in the worldwide solar PV manufacturing industry, has made headlines with a significant announcement. The company is set to deliver more than 220,000 Tiger NEO TOPCon bifacial 72 modules to energize the Verila Solar Power Plant, which stands as Bulgaria’s largest solar project. This development not only marks a significant milestone for Bulgaria but also stands out as a noteworthy achievement in Europe’s renewable energy landscape.

The Verila plant, boasting a capacity of 123 MW, is situated on the southern slope of Verila Mountain, in close proximity to the village of Kraynits. This remarkable installation is nestled at an elevation ranging from 700 to 1,000 meters above sea level, covering an expansive area of 1,300 acres characterized by rolling steep terrain. The unique location of the plant presents both a captivating engineering challenge and an exciting opportunity for renewable energy development.

The Verila Solar Power Plant project is poised to revolutionize Bulgaria’s energy landscape, significantly boosting the country’s solar power capacity by an impressive 7%. This substantial increase represents a crucial milestone in Bulgaria’s transition towards renewable energy sources. The project serves as a clear signal of progress in a region that has traditionally been hesitant to embrace the transition away from fossil fuels. It highlights the growing momentum and determination to embrace sustainable alternatives in the pursuit of a greener future.

Frank Niendorf, the General Manager of JinkoSolar Europe, expressed his enthusiasm for the achievement, emphasizing the significance of JinkoSolar’s cutting-edge TOPCon technology and its role as a guiding light in Europe’s renewable energy transition. He remarked, “The Verila project will serve as a benchmark not only for Bulgaria but for the entire European region in terms of renewable energy transition.” Niendorf highlighted that this project stands as one of the largest endeavors in Europe to utilize TOPCon bifacial modules, and JinkoSolar takes great pride in being a part of this momentous milestone for the industry.

TOPCon technology represents a significant advancement in solar cell technology, building upon the foundation of PERC (Passivated Emitter Rear Contact) cells. This innovative approach incorporates advanced passivation techniques within the contact structure, resulting in a substantial reduction in recombination losses. As a result, the overall efficiency of the cell is greatly enhanced, leading to improved performance and increased energy generation capabilities. The evolution from PERC to TOPCon technology marks a notable step forward in the continuous pursuit of higher efficiency and more sustainable solar energy solutions.
