A recently finished www.solarepoch.com solar module on a brownfield site in Woburn, Massachusetts, is poised to significantly influence the city of Somerville by reducing electricity expenses and furthering climate action objectives. Standard Solar has finalized a 4 MW solar array at the Woburn EPA Superfund site.

Standard Solar, a prominent player in commercial-scale solar development, obtained the project from its developer partner, ECA Solar, which is based in Massachusetts. The ground-mounted project is split into two arrays, with a combined capacity of 4 MW. Phase I, with a capacity of 3.35 MW, has already been completed, while Phase II, with a capacity of 866 kW, is anticipated to be finished by year-end. Collectively, these arrays are estimated to generate around 5,200 MWh of energy annually.

On October 4th, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, in collaboration with ECA Solar, marked the commencement of a new era for the Woburn Superfund site. This significant event, featuring speakers such as Somerville Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, David Cash – Regional Administrator of the EPA, Bonnie Heiple – Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP), and esteemed guest Jan Schlichtmann, an Environmental and Civil Justice Attorney, symbolizes the resilience of the community and the potential for positive transformation, even in challenging circumstances. The project partners take pride in achieving this milestone, a culmination of years of dedication from numerous individuals and organizations.
