In our Q1 2023 magazine, we highlighted Anza, a solar module and energy storage procurement platform that addresses the complexity involved in solar module procurement. With the United States government’s efforts to enhance the supply chain and promote domestic manufacturing, the complexity has increased significantly. Anza, a spin-off of Borrego, offers engineering expertise and facilitates the calculation of PV purchasing complexities, enabling EPCs, developers, and IPPs to streamline their procurement processes.

Within seconds, Anza generates a ranking displayed in a sortable table containing specifications such as Wattage, price per Watt, and more, including the calculation of net present value (NPV). Additionally, Anza provides PAN file analysis for each module and offers insights on wafer and polysilicon suppliers, along with information on third-party audits.

According to Aaron Hall, the president of Anza, “While most buyers are capable of determining the best module for their project or portfolio, they often lack the time, internal engineering resources, or estimating capabilities to do so.” He further explains that buyers typically have a financing model that works well, but understanding the factors that contribute to it is crucial. Anza has extensive experience in development projects and EPC estimating, enabling them to analyze the impact of module selection on balance of system (BOS) costs. Factors such as labor, DC electrical, and string sizes are influenced by this decision. Efficiency also plays a role, affecting module form factor and capital expenditure (CapEx) components. All of these considerations have tangible effects on the overall outcome.
