SunVest Solar recently commemorated the successful conclusion of two fresh community solar ventures in DeKalb, Illinois, officially initiating electricity generation at these sites. These DeKalb solar projects, with a combined capacity of 6 MW, stand out as among the initial initiatives facilitated by Illinois’ Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA), which was enacted into law in September 2021.

“We are delighted to contribute to the rapid expansion of community solar module in Northern Illinois,” stated Bram Walters, CEO of SunVest Solar. “By the year’s end, we will have completed the development of over 57 MW of community solar projects in the ComEd region, empowering the utility to deliver dependable, eco-friendly energy to its clientele while facilitating cost savings on their electricity bills. Since 2019, SunVest and its collaborators have propelled nearly 120 MW of community solar initiatives in Illinois, with ongoing efforts to develop an additional 200 MW within the state.”

The paired community solar installations, each boasting a capacity of 3 MW, comprise over 9,400 solar panels and cover a combined area of 24 acres along Gurler Road in DeKalb. Together, these initiatives yield a total generation capacity of 6 MW, adequate to meet the energy requirements of more than 850 typical Illinois households. SunVest is thrilled to announce that both projects have garnered full subscriptions from a diverse range of residential and commercial clients. Subscribing community members and businesses are anticipated to collectively save approximately $90,000 on their ComEd electricity bills in the inaugural year, with projected savings exceeding $1.7 million throughout the projects’ lifespans.
